“Food, Inc.” Care to comment? →
“Food, Inc.” Care to comment? I’ll go first. It reiterates why I’m semi-vegetarian. I only buy Wild caught seafood, not farm-raised. If we buy local and organic, and read labels than we can feel better physically and force more companies to cater to green and organic. I know that you probably think its too expensive to eat healthy. Actually, it’s cheaper because those “cheap” “preservative”...

Vegan Thanksgiving recipes...
Thanks to these hearty, holiday vegan recipes, giving thanks at the dinner table has never been easier. If you’re starting your Thanksgiving menu from scratch, be sure to start with some obligatory sides, including Mashed Potatoes and Cranberry Sauce, and then up the holiday ante with fancier fare such as a Green Bean Casserole and Squash with Wild Rice Stuffing. Worried about lacking in the...

Compassionately Violent: Go ahead, I DARE you to... →
Vegans really get tired of being asked where we get our protein and frustrated with the unnecessary concern about if we’re getting enough. Recently I was challenged to prove that it is in fact possible to build and maintain muscle on a vegan diet. To me, it is easy to understand if you take it back to physiology 101 of the human body. But also, it is equally (if not more important) to me to...

*tips/links/recipes* healthy energy boosters ! →
Do you rely on your cup of Joe for a quick pick-me-up? You’re not alone, according to recent research that shows most Americans use caffeine to boost energy. The problem: Unabated stress, less-than-ideal nutrition, sleep deficits, and too little exercise deplete our bodies, and this morning habit is nothing more than a quick fix.
Not addressing the problem from a long-term perspective...

the 25 nutrient-packed fruits, veggies, grains,... →
In an ideal world, we wouldn’t go first to a pharmacist to address maladies ranging from the common cold to cancer; instead, we’d create grocery shopping lists aimed at fostering optimal health. Good nutrition may not cure disease, but a growing body of research shows it could do something even more powerful: help prevent disease. “By choosing foods wisely, we can control our health destiny,”...

Banana Split Muffins
These incredible, delicious muffins from VN contributor Tammie Ortlieb are a far more socially acceptable breakfast than a banana split piled mile-high with ice cream and toppings. Easy, satisfying, and totally customizable (substitute your favorite nuts or dried fruit for what’s called for here), these muffins make mornings just a little sweeter.

NEW VEGAN COOKING SHOW
tofuninja is excited to announce that we are lending our ninja skills, (in creative culinary, nutritional, & geek ways,) as ninjas do, to a brand new cooking show invented by a raw chef; though the show will not be all raw, it will be vegan.
not ready to spill the beans yet as to the name of the show, but it has a good one. intro has been shot and is being edited and 1st episode will...

i got this nummy recipe off the good folks at delicious living magazine.
i changed the name though to remove the word “wrap” because i have a strong aversion to it (& after living in europe for two years, and after recently watching the 2009 prisoner remake, this aversion is 100x stronger than it ever was!)
i also have NINJA NOTES at the bottom for other ideas & tips, as that...

Vegan Vicchyssoise & A Special Ninja Tip
I got the idea for this post from the fab folks at vegnews.com. I want to comment on 2 of the 4 ingredients in this simple and delicious soup - Soymilk and Boullion cubes.

Vegan Mother's Day Recipes and Tips
Let’s be honest; nobody is more awesome than Mom. Here at the VNHQ, that blanket statement is especially accurate, as we’re fairly obsessed with our own superstar mothers. One staffer’s mom has become a dedicated family recipe veganizer, while another mom flew halfway across the country for a surprise, much-needed visit. Because we love moms, and because none of us would be here without...

A Big Hello to all of the TofuNinja Followers.
This tumblog was as a sub account and therefore can not follow people back :( Had I know this before, I would have made this a separate account. (I am looking into backing up the content here and starting over, but maybe that is not necessary… if it grows enough, I definitely will.)

Sometimes, the most scientifically advanced face creams and cleansers are useless if your diet isn’t up to par. “Your skin is an organ, it will respond to what you eat,” says London-based celebrity food and weight loss expert Marisa Peer. She lists the best foods to eat for clear, smooth and plump skin*.

How to Make Raw Food Taste HOT!
Yet another article from The Raw Food Coach. I especially like this one because not only do I LOVE hot food, I NEED hot food. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t think I could ever be 100% “Successfully Raw” - my body, according to numerous naturopaths, and my obvious always cold hands and feet, is too cold (or yin.) Even in the summer it is best for me to eat hot foods...

Almond Soba Noodles Recipe*
You might want to add a touch more curry paste if you like your noodles on the spicy side. On the other hand, if your curry paste is on the spicy side, you might want to go for a bit less - it is to taste really. As I was eating this I couldn’t help but think that some blanched broccoli would be a nice addition or substitution for the pea spouts.
2 teaspoons red curry paste 1/3 cup...

Nut milks. Oh, how I adore thee : ) Nut milks are what I consider to be a raw food classic. They’re quick, easy - fun, even. And they taste jolly good too. In fact, if you know what you’re doing they taste superb, and anyone - young or old - would love them...

Babycakes was a discovery that changed my life back when I lived in the lower east side of NYC, at a time when I gave up sugar and grains for a year, I nearly died (in a good way) when I found this lil bakery. Almond Hummous
*from http://therawfoodcoach.com/
I have always loved hummous. It somehow hits a spot that many other foods simply cannot hit. And while it’s not the unhealthiest food on the planet (by a long way) it is of course cooked and processed and we are here to get live! So today’s recipe is inspired by the “original” hummous, and even though it’s made from nuts it’s...

BAO :: steamed sweet buns with adzuki beans
I’ve always loved BAO (& DAIFUKI, which is like bao made with mochi), especially the sweet ones with red bean paste inside. My particular affinity is for the variety of Japanese adzuki based items I’ve tried though as you can see on wikipedia, there’s a variety of red bean paste based recipes in Japanese, Korean, & Chinese culinary arts.
